Braves News: Atlanta signs former Athletics outfielder to minor league contract
The Atlanta Braves recently took a step forward at the minor league level by signing free agent Sky Bolt to a minor league contract on February 23, according to team transaction records.
Bolt, a player who played at the major league level, was assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett on the same day. Atlanta Braves sign outfielder Sky Bolt to minor league contract
Bolt, a 30-year-old outfielder, comes to Atlanta after appearing in 81 career games at the MLB level, most of them with the Oakland Athletics. Through that span, Bolt is hitting .156/.205/.266 with 5 HR, 17 RBI, and 7 SB, with 76 of those games coming in the 2021-22 season.
Bolt also made his MLB debut in limited action in 2019 and was ranked as the Athletics’ No. 19 prospect by MLB Pipeline.
Bolt, an Atlanta native and North Carolina native who was a fourth-round draft pick in 2015, last played an MLB game in 2022, playing 42 games with the Oakland Athletics. In those 42 games, Bolt hit .198/.259/.330 with 4 HRs, 13 RBIs, and 5 SBs.
Since last season, the Bolts have played in 64 games with Triple-A Nashville for the Milwaukee Brewers, and have bounced back a bit in the 2023 season. This included a .257/.359/.367 batting average, 3 HRs, 23 RBIs, 3 SBs, and 33 walks against 60 strikeouts.
Looking ahead, as mentioned above, Bolt will be assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett in late February and will begin the 2024 season with the Stripers. Bolt will likely be a Braves outfielder in 2024 and could be called up to Atlanta on the bench at some point this season.
