Alabama news: Shocking as star man nets $92 million contract in NFL free agency

The Tennessee Titans opened the NFL’s free-agency period with a bang on Wednesday afternoon by reaching an agreement with wide receiver Calvin Ridley on a four-year, $92 million contract.

The addition of the former Alabama standout will give second-year quarterback Will Levis two 1,000-yard receivers to throw to in 2024.

DeAndre Hopkins led the Titans with 75 receptions for 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023. Ridley had 76 receptions for 1,016 yards and eight touchdowns for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2023.

Ridley reached those numbers after missing the 2022 season while serving an NFL suspension.

The NFL suspended Ridley indefinitely on March 7, 2022, for betting on league games. He was reinstated on March 6, 2023.

A first-round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft after catching 63 passes for 967 yards and five touchdowns in 2017 for Alabama’s CFP national-championship team, Ridley has 324 receptions for 4,358 yards and 36 touchdowns in 66 NFL regular-season games.

Ridley spent his first four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. Jacksonville obtained Ridley for a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Ridley’s new deal will include $50 million in guaranteed money. Ridley’s contract with the Titans will have an average annual value that is more than his total salary through five NFL seasons, which was $22.245 million.
