The 22-year-old spent the early part of the season under Daniel Farke, making one appearance in the Championship and EFL Cup before being loaned to St Andrews. It has been revealed that Birmingham City have included a buy-option clause in his contract. Despite a strong start to the season under former head coach John Eustace, the Blues have struggled in the second tier in recent months.

Drama has had three different managers since joining the Midlands outfit, including Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney. The Dulwich-born defender has made 28 appearances for Birmingham so far and is a mainstay for the struggling side, who are currently in the relegation zone after losing three league games in a row.

Football Insider reports that his 20-minute appearance in a 4-3 win over Ipswich Town at Leeds in late August was a 20-minute appearance for Drama as management did not want to sign him. It was said to be his last match for the club. His contract is extended before it expires this summer.

The paper also claims that Birmingham must pay the Yorkshire club an undisclosed fee for the defender, who, according to Transfermarkt, currently has a market value of £2.5 million.
The deal is a bit confusing, as the player’s contract expires at the end of the season, but Birmingham City have the option to acquire him at the end of his contract, even if he becomes a free agent.

The Yorkshire Evening Post previously reported that the clause was included to ensure the Blues achieved this ahead of other rival bidders.

However, signing the West Midlands side could become even more difficult in the coming months if the Blues are relegated to League One for the first time in 30 years, which is now becoming more likely.
