Fans celebrate star player on Champions League tie between Arsenal and Bayern Munich

Eric Dier gives his verdict on Arsenal vs. Bayern in the Champions League

Former Arsenal wonder Serge Gnabry will return to the Emirates, while arch-rivals Harry Kane and Eric Dier will be keen to win given their loyalty to Tottenham Hotspur.

Kane joined Bayern on a lucrative contract as a star player aiming for big trophies, while Dier was a down-and-out at Spurs until his surprise move to Munich in January. Bayern are being chased by Bayer Leverkusen for the Bundesliga title and look set to miss out on the title for the first time in over a decade despite the additions of Kane and Dier.

Dier spoke about the teams’ upcoming Champions League clash and admitted he is happy to be back in north London. Speaking to Bayern’s club media, Dier praised Arsenal but said the draw was a good opportunity for his side to prove their critics wrong.

“It’s obviously special for me to join Bayern and then go back to England so soon and of course play in north London,” he said. “This is a great opportunity for us to prove our quality at the highest level. Arsenal have a young team that plays very well.”
Dyer, who has been a hugely unpopular figure in several North London derbies, is likely to receive a hostile reaction at Emirates if he appears in the first leg. The English player has played 15 times against Arsenal, winning five, drawing four and losing six, and also scored once in Arsenal’s 4-2 win over the Emirates in 2018. ing.

Unai Emery’s side were leading 1-0 when Dier equalized and a fight almost broke out between the teams and on the bench, with Aaron Ramsey venting his emotions at the defender. Arsenal then came from behind to win 4-2, with Alexandre Lacazette scoring from a deflection by Dier and Ramsey having the last laugh.

The Gunners will be hoping Dier’s return to the Emirates ends in similarly comical fashion and that he is unable to keep Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz out of Bayern’s box.
