The Magpies are linked with both Leicester City midfielders and have been told to sign both
Jose Enrique, a former Newcastle United defender, feels Eddie Howe’s side should recruit James Maddison and Youri Tielemans. The Magpies are still linked with the Leicester City duo, and the Spaniard believes the Toon need to strengthen their group as a whole.
Howe’s side had two bids for Maddison rejected in the summer and remain interested in the offensive midfielder, while Tielemans’ contract at the King Power expires this summer. The Belgian midfielder has been linked with a move to St. James’ Park, with Arsenal also thought to be interested.
Tielemans is thought to be seeking a move to a Champions League club, which, given Newcastle’s strong start to the season, could tip a prospective move in their favor if they finish in the top four. Maddison’s contract expires in 2024, and the Magpies are trying to secure a better deal in the summer.
“What you need to do when you do well, which teams like Liverpool haven’t done in recent seasons,” Enrique told FairBettingSites, “is to maintain strengthening your starting 11. They now have a very solid starting 11 when everyone is fit, but they must continue to improve.
“Players like [Youri] Tielemans are available in the summer and make sense; he is very experienced, an international, and of a nice age. I like [James] Maddison as well, and he can play a lot of games.
“Eddie needs to find the proper players, and with the money they have, they have the opportunity to get really talented players, but Tielemans and Maddison are both elite players. “I think Maddison is the superior player who can play at a higher level, but I love Tielemans and think they might both be very fantastic additions.”
