According to 90min, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Marcus Edwards ahead of next season. The 24-year-old has performed admirably this season, and a number of clubs are interested in his services.
Meanwhile, both clubs’ representatives were present at the Estadio Jose Alvalade to see Sporting CP play Juventus in the UEFA Europa League. They also maintained a close eye on the 24-year-old as they try to sign him this summer.
While Sporting did not advance to the next round, Edwards and his team did a terrific job in holding Juventus to a 1-1 tie. The England Under-20 international found himself on the scoreboard after converting from the spot.
Edwards began his career at the Tottenham Hotspur youth academy. He rose through the ranks at the club and was loaned out several times. The 24-year-old, however, was unable to break into the first team. And eventually left the club in the summer of 2019.
Since leaving Sporting CP, the attacking midfielder has gone from strength to strength. In the winter of 2022, he joined the Portuguese club. And has been performing admirably ever since. In 45 appearances so far this season, the 24-year-old has 24 goal contributions.
His performances have piqued people’s interest. Tottenham want to bring him back to the club. The London team has been disappointing this season, failing to overcome their trophy drought. In addition, they have parted ways with their manager, Antonio Conte.
While they are looking for a new boss, they have already begun making plans for the summer. Edwards is also one of their transfer objectives. They feel the 24-year-old can assist them in ending their trophy drought. He might bring a lot of creativity as well as goals to the table.
Spurs will, however, face competition from the Merseyside club for the England Under-20 international. Liverpool has struggled due to an ineffective midfield. They are also looking to sign many midfielders ahead of next season.
Edwards is on their list of transfer targets, and they are likely to make a move for him this summer. Jurgen Klopp is looking for an attacking midfielder and would love to have the 24-year-old on his team.
