Deal in progress as Tottenham Hotspur beat Arsenal in race to 22-year vibrant centre-back

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to compete with Arsenal for Crystal Palace player Marc Guehi.

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are reportedly vying for Crystal Palace center-back Marc Guehi.

According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham ‘are ready to rival’ Arsenal for the 22-year-old centre-back. In the summer of 2021, he departed Chelsea for Palace, possibly in pursuit of playing time.

He appeared in just two senior games for the Blues. He has been one of Palace’s most consistent starters this season, appearing in 36 games across all competitions.

Guehi has certainly developed into a terrific young centre-back at Selhurst Park. He has already been capped three times by England, indicating that manager Gareth Southgate is taking notice of his abilities.

Someone like him can help the Spurs’ defense. When Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga are on the field, they do not inspire confidence in the fans. Clement Lenglet’s loan from Barcelona expires this summer as well.

At the back, Eric Dier and Cristian Romero require competition. Guehi, 22, is a homegrown player, which is usually advantageous. A move to one of the north London giants may also be viewed as a step up for him. His contract, however, does not expire until the summer of 2026 (Transfermarkt).

We must be cautious about Arsenal’s interest in the player. This season, the Gunners have gone close to winning the Premier League title and appear to be a more interesting enterprise than the Lilywhites.

Let’s see who we choose for our new management. Perhaps this will give us a better idea of the types of players we will be looking for. Max Kilman of Wolverhampton Wanderers has also been mentioned as a possible target.
