Newcastle United to set a new club record as they take on Crystal Palace by the weekend

When Newcastle United takes on Crystal Palace on Saturday evening, they will be looking to create a new club record.

The Magpies are having their greatest Premier League season in a decade, with a five-point lead in the race for next season’s Champions League.

Eddie Howe’s team had been in second or third place in recent months before Manchester United’s recent resurgence saw them overtake the North East giants.

After two draws against Leeds United and Arsenal, Newcastle returned to winning ways last weekend with a 1-0 triumph over Fulham, thanks to an 89th-minute winner.

While Newcastle survived a missed penalty by the Cottagers to win that game, they have now gone 14 games in the top flight without losing.

If Newcastle wins or draws at Selhurst Park this Saturday, they would have the longest unbeaten streak in Premier League history.

Newcastle’s sole Premier League setback this season occurred on August 31, when Liverpool won 2-1 at Anfield with a 97th-minute goal.

Their solid defensive record also works in their favor ahead of this game, with only six goals conceded in their last 12 Premier League encounters against the Eagles.

Furthermore, the two teams have already met twice in 2022-23, with both Premier League and EFL Cup matches at St James’ Park concluding goalless.

Thirty years have elapsed since two top-flight teams played three goalless draws in the same season, which happened in 1992-93 with Everton and Wimbledon.

Newcastle has already gained seven points from their three London encounters this season, winning at Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur before drawing 0-0 at Arsenal on January 2.
