Borussia Dortmund has reportedly entered the race to sign Youri Tielemans, a Leicester City midfielder who has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in recent months.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the Belgian international is on Dortmund’s radar, with Arsenal offering ‘genuine competition’ for Tielemans, who is expected to leave Leicester for free at the end of the season when his contract expires.
The 25-year-old midfielder, who earns a reported £120,000 per week, could be an exceptional signing for many of Europe’s biggest clubs, and with Dortmund expected to sell a key player this summer in one Jude Bellingham, signing Tielemans would make a lot of sense for the Bundesliga giants.
Tielemans has been one of the Premier League’s best midfielders since joining Leicester from Monaco in 2019, and this summer appears to be the window in which the Foxes’ star finally earns a big move to a UEFA Champions League side, with Dortmund now in the race.
Indeed, Arsenal has been linked with a move for Tielemans since the dawn of time, but despite interest from both the club and the player, Mikel Arteta’s side have yet to make an official bid to sign the midfielder from Premier League rivals.
Tielemans could be a great target for Arsenal, who are looking to strengthen their central midfield in the summer. However, Dortmund’s interest could cause issues for the Gunners, as the Bundesliga would be an ideal fit for the 25-year-old.
Bellingham’s departure from Dortmund this summer appears to be a foregone conclusion, and as a result, the German side require a world-class replacement to fill in for the England international, which Tielemans can provide, and the midfielder may be interested in a move to the Bundesliga.
While Tielemans could be a regular for Arsenal, Dortmund would provide the Belgian with more minutes than the Gunners, as well as guaranteeing the midfielder’s dream of playing in the Champions League year after year.
