72’s writers offer shocking Coventry City vs Hull City prediction ahead of the Championship clash

The72’s writers offer their Coventry City vs Hull City prediction ahead of the Championship clash on Wednesday.

Coventry City head into their upcoming Championship clash with Hull City on the back of their FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester United at Wembley on Sunday afternoon. The Sky Blues were beaten on penalties by the Red Devils.

Mark Robins’ side fought back from 3-0 down to level 3-3 against the Premier League giants. They thought they’d won the clash in the last minute of extra-time, only for Victor Torp’s goal to be ruled out by VAR.

Coventry City have four fixtures left to play this season. They are sat in 8th place behind their upcoming opponents in the table.

Hull City need to win all their remaining matches and hope West Brom and Norwich City drop points if they are to gatecrash the top six. The Tigers are positioned in 7th.

They drew 0-0 away at Watford last time out and missed the chance to close the gap on 6th. Ozan Tufan missed a penalty in the first-half at Vicarage Road.

Liam Rosenior’s side haven’t been in bad form recently though and are unbeaten in their last four. They have also kept two clean sheets on the spin, but it could be too little too late in the play-off scrap.

Harry Mail

“Coventry City will be drained after their clash against Manchester United in the FA Cup and their loss was a very cruel one.

“They gave everything against the Red Devils and it will take them a few days to get over it.

Hull City have a very strong away record and have only lost once in their eight outings on the road in 2024 and that was against automatic promotion chasing Leeds United.

“I fancy the Tigers to win against Coventry City to keep their faint hopes of the play-offs alive but they probably need a miracle to get into the top six now.”

Coventry City vs Hull City prediction: 1-2

James Ray

“It’s going to be a real task for Coventry City to get up for these remaining games. That FA Cup semi-final will have been draining both physically and mentally, and they have to be faultless if they’re to make a shock break into the play-offs.

“They’re up against a direct competitor and an in-form side in Hull City too. It sets up a tricky game for the Sky Blues, and I’m not sure they’ll get the result they need.

“The hosts’ form in the league has fallen away and after the weekend, I’m not sure they’ll have enough to get the result they need. I’m going for a narrow Hull win.”

Coventry City vs Hull City prediction: 1-1
