BREAKING NEWS: Barnsley in advanced talks with new managerial candidates as report suggests

Barnsley have managerial candidates at an ‘advanced’ stage as they continue their hunt for a permanent replacement for Neill Collins, as detailed in a report by the Barnsley Chronicle.

Barnsley continue to search for a new boss as they prepare for another year in League One after losing to Bolton Wanderers in the semi-finals of the play-offs. Martin Devaney ended the past season as their caretaker manager but will not be handed the full-time role.

The Tykes have considered bringing back former promotion winner Daniel Stendel to Oakwell. However, in this latest update regarding his situation, he has penned a new contract at Hannover 96 where he manages the reserves of the German side.

As per the Barnsley Chronicle, he was sounded out as a candidate for the vacancy in South Yorkshire. However, he had reservations over the move and the club have now moved on to other targets instead.

Barnsley also looked at Michael Duff again, as per reporter Alan Nixon on his Patreon page, but he has ended up joining Huddersfield Town instead.

He left for Swansea City last year after guiding them to the play-off final in his only campaign at the helm. However, his team were beaten at Wembley by Sheffield Wednesday.

The Tykes have a big decision to make on who to bring in as their next appointment and need to ensure they get it right as they look to mount another push for promotion from the third tier next year.

They recently announced their retained list and have confirmed that the likes of Devante Cole, Herbie Kane and Jordan Williams are heading out the exit door as free agents this summer. Meanwhile, loanees like John McAtee and Liam Roberts have also gone back to their parent clubs.

Whoever comes in as their new boss will have a big few months ahead of them as they look to rebuild the squad and put on their own stamp on things.

What next for Barnsley?

If the Barnsley Chronicle’s report is true, Barnsley have other contenders in the frame for their hotseat.

Their supporters will want someone in quick to give them a decent chuck of time to start preparing for the new season.

The Tykes have plenty of voids to fill following recent player exits and with the transfer window on the horizon, it could be a busy one for them.
