Barrow have named their new head coach as Stephen Clemence, who was in charge of Gillingham for part of last season.
The 46-year-old Clemence takes over from Pete Wild who had two years in charge of the Bluebirds.
Clemence had been appointed to his first managerial role when he took over the reins at Gillingham in November 2023.
He was succeeding Neil Harris with the club lying eighth in League Two.
Clemence won 12 of his 34 games in charge and the Gills missed out on the play-offs by six points as they finished 12th.
With five games left to play they were in contention lying seventh, but managed only four points from those games to miss-out – ironically a similar end to the season as Barrow.
A former midfielder, Clemence played 243 League games for Spurs, Birmingham and Leicester and was capped for England at Under-18s and Under-21s level.
Following his retirement from playing in 2010, Clemence joined Sunderland as a reserve team coach. He was soon promoted to a first team coach at the Black Cats while they were managed by Steve Bruce.
Bruce continued to keep Clemence as part of his coaching staff for the best part of the next 12 years as the former Blues Midfielder became Bruce’s assistant manager at Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Hull City.
After over a decade of coaching experience behind him, Clemence secured his first managerial role when he took over the reins at Gillingham in November 2023.
He was sacked at the end of the season and replaced by the former Cambridge manager Mark Bonner and has now agreed a two-year deal with Barrow.
