CONGRATULATIONS: Birmingham City make first summer signing under new manager Chris Davies

Ryan Allsop has signed up to become Birmingham City’s first signing of the summer transfer window

Birmingham City have completed the signing of Hull City goalkeeper Ryan Allsop.

Allsop, 32, has become Blues’ first signing of the summer transfer window and the first acquisition on the watch of new manager Chris Davies. The Birmingham-born stopper has signed a three-year contract at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park.

Blues have been searching for a goalkeeper who is comfortable in possession and Allsop is renowned for his ability on the ball. He was made surplus-to-requirements by Hull following the sacking of manager Liam Rosenior, who signed Allsop from Cardiff City last summer., and Blues have stepped in.

Allsop, who hails from a Blues-supporting family, returns to the city 13 years after leaving West Bromwich Albion. Blues are the 16th club of a career which has taken Allsop from Birmingham to Humberside, via a 10-game stint with Icelandic side Hottur.

The goalkeeper has spent the past three seasons in the Championship with Derby County, Cardiff and Hull, playing 111 of a possible 138 matches. Before that he enjoyed a three-year spell at Wycombe Wanderers which saw him win promotion to the Championship in 2020 via the League One play-offs.

Allsop played twice in the Premier League during his five-year stay at Bournemouth, although most of his football in that period came across five separate loan spells in the EFL.
