Huddersfield Town have opened talks to sign Mickel Miller from Plymouth Argyle on a free transfer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Terriers, who will begin next season in League One under new boss Michael Duff, have begun negotiationswith Miller’s camp over a move to the John Smith’s Stadium.

Huddersfield are now in the frame to beat several Championship and League One clubs to the signature of the wing-back, who made 34 appearances last season as Plymouth avoided the drop.

Now out of contract at Home Park, Miller has attracted plentiful interest with Football Insider reporting [23 June] that Sheffield Wednesday were targeting a deal

Huddersfield Town have shown considerable ambition in the early stages of this summer transfer window, with Duff looking to secure an immediate return to the Championship.

Town have had a bid accepted for Charlton Athletic striker Alfie May of around £750,000 as revealed by Football Insider [27 June], last season’s League One top scorer with 23 league goals.

With Jack Rudoni joining Coventry City for around £5m and higher earners such as Jordan Rhodes and Connor Mahoney departing West Yorkshire, the club have further muscle in the transfer market and have already brought in Lasse Sorensen from Lincoln City.

Miller would be considered an astute signing for Huddersfield given his status as a free agent, particularly with the number of clubs looking to turn the player’s head.

Football Insider reported [23 May] that a trio of Championship clubs – Preston along with newly-promoted Portsmouth and Oxford – were also tracking Miller’s situation.
