Pedro Porro is now a permanent member of Tottenham Hotspur. According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs have officially activated and paid his €40 million compulsory purchase clause.
Spurs bought Porro on loan during the January transfer window with an obligation to make the transfer permanent, which has now been fulfilled, with the whole transaction costing the North London club about €45 million including loan fee and add-ons.
The Spaniard has had a rough first six months at Tottenham, receiving criticism from fans and critics for his poor start. The turbulence around Spurs has done nothing to help him relax and perform to his best potential.
Following the departures of Antonio Conte and Cristian Stellini, Porro is already on his third manager, with Ange Postecoglou taking over Tottenham in the off-season. He ended up playing as a right winger in Spurs assistant manager Ryan Mason’s 4-2-3-1 formation, so it’s been a difficult transition for him.

Although there have been concerns about Porro’s defending, the 23-year-old has showed glimpses of his extraordinary skill on set-piece duties and moving forward, scoring three goals and assisting three times in his 15 Premier League outings.
Despite the obstacles and criticism, the 23-year-old appears determined to make the transfer work. Porro made it obvious in a recent interview with Spanish media source AS this week that he has no intention of giving up on his move to Spurs anytime soon.
“It was a giant step, in the end, I’ve been fighting for it all my life, and it’s something very big,” he remarked, according to Sport Witness quotes.
“And I don’t want to wake up from this dream; it is without a doubt one of the best leagues in the world, if not the best, and being there every day is a reward for all the work I have done in my country since I was a child.”
Porro may be a square peg in a round hole under Postecoglou because he isn’t a natural match for the inverted full-back role; his strongest abilities are the timing of his overlapping and crossing. However, because of the Spaniard’s technical ability and versatility, Postecoglou can slightly alter his role to get a song out of him.
