Six-foot-10 forward/center Knight once scorched the Celtics with twenty points and eleven rebounds.
Big man Nathan Knight is joining the Celtics on a two-way contract.
The news was initially broken by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Sunday morning. The Celtics later confirmed the story in an afternoon press statement.
Knight, a 6-foot-10 forward/center from William & Mary who is 26 years old, played with the New York Knicks during the preseason. In his nine total minutes played in two games versus the Celtics, he scored three points.
Over the course of three inconsistent NBA seasons, he has averaged 3.7 points, 2 rebounds, and 0.2 blocks in 7.8 minutes per game. Knight participated in 33 games with the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2021–22, 37 with the Atlanta Hawks in 2020–21, and 38 with the Timberwolves in the most recent campaign
Born in Syracuse, New York, Knight completed his high school education in Meriden, New Hampshire’s Kimball Union Academy. He plays methodically, takes his time, and prefers to arrive at his position.
Over his career, Knight has shot 26.5 percent from 3-point range and 54.7 percent from inside the arc. He scored eight points out of eleven in a game against the Celtics in December 2021, adding four assists, 11 rebounds, and a block.
In response, the Celtics said that guard Jay Scrubb, who suffered an ACL tear, had been waived. Knight may play in up to 50 NBA games as a two-way player.
Knight has the opportunity to fight with Luke Kornet and Neemias Queta, among others, for sporadic huge minutes as a backup, even if it’s unlikely that he would receive regular playing time.
