DONE DEAL: Detroit Lions finally agree to Contract Extensions for 2 Key Pieces to Teams Exciting Future

The Detroit Lions announced today that the team has agreed to contract extensions for the Executive Vice President and General Manager Brad Holmes and Head Coach Dan Campbell.

EVP, GM Brad Holmes, and head coach Dan Campbell agreed to contract extensions that will carry them through the 2027 season.

Brad Holmes joined the Detroit Lions before the 2021 season. Six days later, Dan Campbell was hired. Both have been the main reasons for the culture change in Detroit.

Detroit Lions statement: “We are thrilled to have Brad and Dan under contract for the next four seasons,” said Detroit Lions Principal Owner and Chair Sheila Hamp. “They have been the driving force behind the rebuild of our football team and the success that we have enjoyed. The continuity they provide for our football program will continue to be the key to our future success on the field.”

Detroit Lions Culture Change

Detroit had 14 wins in the three seasons prior to hiring Holmes and Campbell. Their playoff record all-time was 7-13.

The Campbell-led Lions went 12-5 this past season with a divisional championship. They coupled that with an exciting playoff run into the conference championship against the 49ers, where they eventually met heartache.

Achieving this record and playoff run within the first three seasons of their tenure speaks to the type of ideology the Lions have in mind. The Lions look to continue this run for as long as Holmes and Campbell are in charge.

Chris Spielman, one of the most decorated players in Lions franchise history, rejoined the franchise in 2021 as Special Assistant to Principal Owner and Chair Sheila Hamp and President/CEO Rod Wood.

Spielman states, “I could not be more proud of the work that Brad, Dan, and Chris have done for our organization,” said President and CEO Rod Wood. “They have selflessly worked together to build a winning culture within the Lions. I am excited to continue working with them to create the sustained success we envision for the team, our fans, and the city of Detroit.”
