Emiliano Martinez in a hot boiling situation as player set for FIFA punishment

The world champions are in hot water following their post-final victory against France in Qatar.

Martinez was chastised for making a rude gesture with his Golden Glove medal after Argentina won a penalty shootout last month.

He was also seen in the locker room criticizing France’s Kylian Mbappe, though FIFA has not named anyone. Argentina has been cited for probable misconduct of players and officials, provocative behavior, and infringement of the principles of fair play.

‘The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has opened proceedings against the Argentinian Football Association due to potential breaches of articles 11 (Offensive behavior and violations of the principles of fair play) and 12 (Misconduct of players and officials) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, as well as article 44 of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Regulations in conjunction with the Media and Marketing Regulations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022,’ read a statement from the world governing body.

Emery stated he was unaware of any disciplinary action, but he expressed his admiration for Martinez.

He said: ‘It’s two different moments. One moment is for the national team in the World Cup, the other one is here.

We have ideals and strive to be polite, first to ourselves, then to the opposing side, and last to our supporters.

‘Before, we worked together with Arsenal in London, and here he’s a very wonderful guy, courteous. He is a fierce competitor who moved to London when he was 18 years old.

‘He has been playing here for 12 years, striving to reach his big goal. We must be quite proud of him here.

‘Me? I’m really proud of him.’

Martinez has been in excellent form since his return to Villa Park, and he was instrumental in his team’s 2-1 victory over Leeds United last night.

The 30-year-old hasn’t been swayed by the criticism heaped on him since his actions, which included throwing the ball away and attempting to frighten Aurelien Tchouameni, who missed during a thrilling penalty shootout.

‘There are some things I am unable to accomplish. Embarrassing myself in goal, rattling my opponent, and over the line… ‘I just can’t do it,’ France captain Hugo Lloris said earlier this week to L’Equipe.

‘I’m far too rational and honest a man to go down that road. Even if I didn’t want to lose that manner, I’m not sure how to win that way.

‘He was critical. Concerning his festivities, he has been evaluated sufficiently; there is no need to add anything else.

‘He employed every tactic in the book to destabilize us during the shoot-out.’
