GOOD BYE: £15m striker issues farewell message ahead of West Brom summer move

West Brom’s attacking ranks will be boosted this summer following the return of one player.

West Brom striker Karlan Grant has penned a farewell message to Cardiff City following the end of his season-long loan spell.

The 26-year-old has spent the 2023/24 season on loan with West Brom’s Championship rivals after joining them in mid-July. He played a lot of football, featuring in 40 games in total with six goals and three assists in all competitions.

In a short but sweet message on his various social media platforms, he said: “Thankyou @CardiffCityFC,” along with photos of him during his time in South Wales.

Despite the season being over for Cardiff, Grant will be unavailable to West Brom for the play-offs. He will return to the club this summer where he still has two years remaining on the six-year deal he signed from Huddersfield Town after joining for a reported £15m.

Depending on what division the Baggies find themselves in next season, Grant could be reintegrated in the first-team picture with Alex Mowatt and Cedric Kipre being a source of inspiration. Both players a year away with Middlesbrough and Cardiff last term and have come back to help them reach the play-offs.

Back in March, Grant was asked about possibly returning to Cardiff in the summer, but admitted that conversations would need to be had with West Brom. He said: I’ve obviously still got years on my contract at West Brom, it’s a conversation for the clubs to have.

“I’ll go back and speak to my representatives and see what the best option is for me.

“I think it just depends on the situation, I probably have to have a conversion with the manager and my representatives to see what the best outcome is for me, it’s about me and my career, I want to play games, that’s the most important thing and I’ve been lucky to do that this year.”

As for Carlos Corebran’s stance, he said in November that it was ‘impossible’ to close the door on players who are a part of the club. He was pleased that he was getting first-team minutes.
