DETROIT — After beginning the first week of the 2024 season on the road, the Detroit Tigers get set to step onto the diamond at Comerica Park for their home opener, kickstarting a weekend series with the Oakland Athletics.
The Tigers were one win away from equaling the franchise’s best start to a season since 2015. However, despite beating the New York Mets in extra innings twice, they ended up losing in the second half of a doubleheader on Thursday, marking the team’s first loss of the season. Nevertheless, the start Detroit has had is nothing short of impressive. While you can say the two teams the Tigers have played have not been good, the team has confidence heading into its first homestand.
The Bengals are one of just four teams in the league that has just one loss to their record so far.
One team that has little confidence coming into the weekend is the Athletics. Along with the team’s impending move out of town, the A’s have been terrible on the field. After getting pummeled in its first series against the Cleveland Guardians, Oakland was swept by the Boston Red Sox, at home, earlier this week.
The A’s had the Tigers number last season, winning four of the seven meetings in 2023, including two of three at Comerica Park last July.
