The arrival of Faes was a rare spark of excitement in a difficult summer for Leicester City and its supporters. The player has previously discussed his feelings about joining the club, but now he has revealed how Brendan Rodgers persuaded him that the move was the right one for him.

“The most important thing for me was knowing that I would start in the matches and that I would continue to learn to become even better,” Faes told Le Soir.

“We had the opportunity to talk with the coach before my arrival. He phoned me twice or three times. He defined the project as well as his style of play. He said he was counting on me.

“It was critical for him to have a guy behind him who could defend while advancing and lead the team. These are two components of my strategy.

“I believe I am assisting the team and following the coach’s instructions. So, yes, everything is in order.”
