MVU Baseball returns skilled, seasoned team for 2024

This season, we’re returning eight players and will field our most experienced team in recent memory.

Reid Myers (IF, P, C ’25), Parker Hakey (IF/P ’25), and Gavin Nichols (C / P ’25) will each serve as this season’s captains and will each be returning for their third full season at the varsity level. Reid will serve in a utility role and is expected to log innings at shortstop, third base, pitcher, and catcher. He‘ll also serve as a table-setter in our lineup. Parker returns with the most experience on the mound from last season. He’ll again be one of our starting pitchers and will play shortstop when not pitching. Gavin has been our starting catcher since his freshman season, and we expect this to continue this season while also finding opportunities to build Gavin’s experience on the mound. Parker and Gavin will bat in the middle of this year’s lineup.

Blake Carson (IF / OF ’24) returns to this year’s squad as our lone senior. Blake is expected to find time in both the outfield and infield as well as offensively.

AJ Dennett (IF / P ’25), Tabor Rich (IF / P ’25), Wyett Bellrose (OF ’25), and Beau Reynolds (OF / IF ’25) are all also returning from last year’s team. AJ and Tabor are expected to log innings in the corner infield. Both will also pitch, with Tabor being one of our three main starting pitchers from a year ago. Wyett is our lone returning full-time outfielder and possesses good speed on the basepaths. Beau, a playoff push call-up at the end of last season, is looking forward to his first full season on the varsity team and will spend time in the outfield as well as first base.

Entering their first seasons at the varsity level, Elyas Lussier (OF / C ’25), Colby Young (OF / IF ’25), Hayden Richardson (OF / IF / P ’25), Max Wagner (IF / P ’26), and Arek Mathieu (OF / P ’26) will each contribute and be relied upon in different ways.

We finished last season with a 16-2 record, a Lake League Championship, and hosted the semi-finals, but ultimately, that was where our season ended with a 2-1 loss to eventual State Champions People’s Academy/Stowe. Our program goal will be to continue to take our team and personal development day by day in order to get back to where we ended last season in hopes of taking the next step.
