What a bad news form Leicester City!

When you want to buy a house, the two crucial factors are how much money you have and how much your dream home is going to cost you. New figures combine average earnings with average price houses to show which areas of the UK are the most unaffordable for local people.

In Leicestershire, Melton and Harborough are the worst for affordability, with average prices for homes in both areas 10.3 times the average annual salary of the people living in those areas. However, both are topped by neighbouring Rutland, where the average value of a home is more than £415,000 – that’s eleven times the area’s average salary.

At the other end of the scale is Leicester, with its hundreds of terraced homes and flats bringing the average price of a home down to a relatively low £224,000. But even in the city, that average price is 7.9 times the average annual earnings of Leicester people
