The Boston Celtics officially signed the former Nebraska basketball player to a two-year contract worth more than $4.2 million on Sunday.

The 6-9 guard has been impressing on the Celtics summer league squad after beginning his NBA career with the Toronto Raptors after being drafted in the second round in 2021.

For the Celtics, he has been averaging 15 points, six rebounds, and four assists per game. He just had an 18-point game against the Knicks.

Last season, Banton appeared in 31 games for the Raptors, averaging 4.6 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 9.0 minutes per game. During the 2021-22 season, he averaged 3.2 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 10.9 minutes per game in 64 games as a rookie. He also played in seven regular-season games (all starts) for the Raptors 905, averaging 24.1 points, 8.9 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 1.4 steals in 33.6 minutes.

He averaged 9.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 27.2 minutes in 27 games as a sophomore at Nebraska, becoming the first player since 1974 to lead the Huskers in both rebounding and assists. Banton, a resident of Toronto, was taken with the 46th overall choice in the 2021 NBA Draft, marking the Raptors’ first Canadian selection in the draft.
