Celtics reveals true feelings on potential Deandre Ayton trade after Bradley Beal blockbuster

After landing Bradley Beal in a blockbuster trade with the Washington Wizards, most fans believe the Phoenix Suns’ next natural step would be to try to transfer Deandre Ayton in return for more assets. With Beal joining Kevin Durant and Devin Booker, the Suns will be highly top-heavy for now, but there’s no disputing that they’ll need to strengthen their Big 3’s supporting cast ahead of the upcoming season.

The Boston Celtics are one of Ayton’s rumored destinations if the Suns do deal him. Unfortunately for the Suns, given Boston’s apparent lack of interest in the 24-year-old center, they may have to look elsewhere. According to Brian Robb of Mass Live, the Celtics “have no interest in an Ayton deal per a league source due to his pricy contract.”

Ayton is under contract with the Suns for the next three years and will earn more than $100 million. This is a number that the Celtics are uneasy with, so it appears that Boston will explore elsewhere for frontcourt help. The 6-foot-11 center would have been an excellent addition for Boston, but not at that price.

The article also mentions Phoenix’s alleged interest in reigning Sixth Man of the Year Malcolm Brogdon, although any transaction is contingent on the Suns finding a third team. The Celtics may still participate, but only if Deandre Ayton does not finish up in Boston.
