Fabrizio Romano drops Erling Haaland to Real Madrid update

Some rumours broke out recently that Real Madrid had dropped their interest in Kylian Mbappe and were not going to pursue a move for him next summer. That came out of the blue to be honest as most people expected the French World Cup winner to end up at Santiago Bernabeu. Let’s if the reports are accurate.

On the other hand, there have also been suggestions that Real Madrid are ready to push for a move to sign Erling Haaland. The Norwegian striker finished second in the recent Ballon d’Or and is most probably the best striker in Europe right now.

Real Madrid do not have a long-term number 9 right now. Thus, it would make sense for them to pursue the signature of Haaland.

Amidst all this, Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the situation. As reported by FootballTransfers, he wrote in CaughtOffside:

“Erling Haaland – The latest big name being linked with Real Madrid is Erling Haaland, with the Spanish press claiming he’s their top target now after they decided to stop pursuing Kylian Mbappe.

“However, I’m not aware of anything about that at this point – I don’t think it’s even worth to mention if it’s realistic or not at this point because there’s nothing to be decided now for Haaland or Mbappe.

Fabrizio drops Haaland to Real Madrid update

Thus, it looks like the situation involving Haaland and Real Madrid is quiet now despite all the media speculation in recent days. That does not mean that they could not pursue a move for the Norwegian superstar in the future.

If Real Madrid do not end up signing Mbappe, then Haaland would be the alternative that makes the most sense. In fact, many believe that he would be a better fit than the Frenchman.

Haaland has proven himself as a winner during his time at Manchester City, winning the Treble in his debut season. On the other hand, Mbappe has not managed to win the Champions League with PSG over the years.

Also, Haaland could be a more effective player in the right team. Real Madrid might be just that as he would be surrounded by the likes of Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, Eduardo Camavinga, Fede Valverde and more, hopefully for years to come.
