ATLANTA – The Atlanta Hawks announced today that they have completed a trade with the Boston Celtics. The Hawks have acquired the draft rights to Mouhamed Gueye (39th overall in the 2023 NBA Draft), while the Celtics have received Atlanta’s 2027 second round pick. On June 22, the trade was agreed to in principle.

Gueye (pronounced mo-HAH-med Gay) played in 68 games (66 starts) at Washington State, averaging 10.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 26.9 minutes (.489 FG%,.613 FT%). He earned Washington State’s highest NBA Draft pick since Klay Thompson (No. 11 overall by Golden State) in 2011.

During the 2022-23 season, the 6-11 forward appeared in 33 games (all starts), averaging 14.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 32.1 minutes and earning All-Pac-12 First Team honors (.488 FG%,.674 FT%). Gueye’s 8.4 rebounds per game was fourth in the Pac-12, while his 14.3 points per game ranked ninth. During the 2022-23 season, he had 15 double-doubles, the most in the Pac-12 and the sixth-most in a single season in Washington State history.

Gueye, who was named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team in 2021-22, started 33 of Washington State’s 35 games that season, tying Klay Thompson’s program record for most starts by a true freshman. During his freshman season, the Dakar, Senegal native had 33 blocks (fourth-most in program history by a freshman), 181 thefts (fifth-most by a freshman), and 29 steals (tenth-most by a freshman).
