Fans react as Celtics legend drops strong statement on Jaylen Brown

During an interview with Heavy Sports’ Steve Bulpett, Boston Celtics icon Paul Pierce recently highlighted Jaylen Brown’s record-breaking contract extension.

“Shoot, I’m happy for him,” Pierce exclaimed to Bulpett. “You know what, Jaylen is a smart guy, and his contribution to the community extends beyond basketball.” From what he’s said, you can tell. I believe the Celtics considered everything. When you invest that much in someone, it’s usually for reasons other than basketball — especially when it’s the biggest deal in NBA history. You consider his effect, as well as who he is as a person. So you have to feel good about giving it to someone, and I know they do because of his influence, not just on them.

Brown made his contract extension with the Cs official on July 26 with a press gathering at his 7uice Foundation Bridge Program at MIT. No. 7 agreed to terms with the Celtics on a five-year, $304 million deal extension.

Paul Pierce has every reason to be pleased with Jaylen Brown’s new contract with the Boston Celtics.

Of all, Brown has earned his hefty payday with his ongoing efforts on the court. Since being chosen in 2016, he has helped the Boston Celtics reach five Eastern Conference Finals.

More recently, he’s stepped into a larger role for their last three runs to the third round, carrying the burden alongside Jayson Tatum. He’s been named to two NBA All-Star teams in the last three years, averaging 25.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game, while shooting 48.3% from the field and 36.1% from distance, since the 2020-21 season.

On top of all of that, Brown’s ambitions away from the basketball court speak to who he is as a person and a leader. At his celebratory event, the 26-year-old made it clear that he plans to put his earnings back into the city of Boston to make it a better place, evening saying he hopes to build a “Black Wall Street” there one day.

“I appreciate the investment and commitment from the Celtics and the rest of the community,” Brown said to reporters, according to CLNS Media. “That commitment will be felt and returned from me in Boston — on and off the field — and, hopefully, soon throughout the world.” Your being here today is quite meaningful to me. You guys are the next generation; you are the future. Everything I do is in the hopes of making the world a better place. So, thank you for coming, thank you for being here, and thank you for sharing this moment with me. We have a lot of work ahead of us, so let’s get started.”

Celtics fans have previously expressed concern that Brown will leave the area if given the opportunity, citing the city’s racial concerns. Instead, he’s not running, but rather working to make Boston a better place for all.

These are the true characteristics of a leader.
