Jaylen Brown for the first time breaks silence after $304m supermax extension with Boston Celtics

Jaylen Brown addressed the media for the first time since signing a supermax contract extension with the Boston Celtics on Wednesday afternoon. The All-NBA forward had a press conference at MIT, the home of his 7uice Foundation Bridge Program, in Cambridge.

“I appreciate the investment and commitment from the Celtics and the rest of the community,” Brown said to reporters, according to CLNS Media. “That commitment will be felt and returned from me in Boston — on and off the field — and, hopefully, soon throughout the world.” Your being here today is quite meaningful to me. You guys are the next generation; you are the future. Everything I do is in the hopes of making the world a better place. So, thank you for coming, thank you for being here, and thank you for sharing this moment with me. We have a lot of work ahead of us, so let’s get started.”

The extension became public on Tuesday morning, when various reports stated that the agreement had been reached.

“Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown has agreed to a five-year, $304 million supermax contract extension with the franchise, according to sources,” The Athletic’s Shams Charania tweeted. “This is the richest deal in NBA history, and it was negotiated by agent Jason Glushon.”

The new contract for the 26-year-old is for $304 million, which is the most the Celtics could have offered and the richest in NBA history. The contract includes benefits for both parties. Brown is eligible for a trade kicker, which means that if Boston decides to include him in a trade, he will be entitled to a trade bonus worth up to 15% of his annual salary.

As for the Celtics, the sweetener for them is that there is no player option for the final season of Brown’s extension, which means they don’t run the risk of him leaving a year early.

Jaylen Brown’s extension sets the Boston Celtics up for years of success

Hopefully, the extension will also signal continued success for the Boston Celtics, who have only missed the first round of the playoffs once in Brown’s seven-year career.

Furthermore, the star winger has performed admirably as a vital contributor over the last few seasons. Since the 2020-21 season, he’s been nominated to two NBA All-Star teams while averaging 25.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game while shooting 48.3% from the field and 36.1% from distance.
