Jayson Tatum On Kevin Hart’s Claim That The Sixers Are Standing in the Way of the Celtics

Jayson Tatum is no comedian, but if someone is in the presence of Kevin Hart, everything is hilarity.

Appearing in the latest episode of Cold as Balls, the two had a funny banter about the actor’s hometown team, the Philadelphia 76ers, and Tatum’s Boston Celtics.

Kevin Hart: “The one thing that stands in the way of a Celtics ring are the Sixers”

Tatum: “Do they?”

Kevin Hart: “How close do you feel the Boston Celtics are?”

Jayson Tatum: “The team is a little bit different, which I’m excited and sad about. Smart and Grant are gone, but we have some great new additions.”

KH: “One thing that stands in the way of that, of course, is the Philadelphia 76ers.”

JT: “Do they?”

KH: “We will, eventually.”

Jayson Tatum and Kevin Hart’s hilarious exchange
If you’re wondering how a dyed-in-the-wool Sixers fan like Hart wore a #2 Celtics jersey, here’s how it played out

Tatum took a fraction of a second to respond to the comedian’s claim, and rightly so. In fact, the Celtics All-Star is 24-13 against the Sixers in regular season and playoff matchups. This includes an undefeated 3-0 series record against them in the postseason. He averaged 26.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in 16 postseason games versus Philly.

As Hart alluded, the Celtics have been painfully close to winning it all in the past seven seasons. They made five trips to the Eastern Conference Finals and one appearance in the NBA Finals.

Boston’s Offseason Moves

Responding to these failures, Boston’s front office decided to shake things up. The team traded Marcus Smart and Grant Williams and acquired Kristaps Porzingis . Porzingis will give them the much-needed ceiling up front, while Derrick White’s presence softens Smart’s impact.

The transactions also netted the Celtics numerous draft picks.

Tatum was reportedly trying to lure Damian Lillard to Boston, but that option appears out of the question. Besides Tatum and Prozingis, the Celtics signed All-Star forward Jaylen Brown to a historically massive extension.

BREAKING: Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown has agreed to a five-year, $304 million supermax contract extension with the franchise, per sources. This is the richest deal in NBA history, negotiated by agent Jason Glushon.
