According to Wales Online, Leeds United transfer target Joel Piroe is now poised to stay in Swansea following a new £15 million exit twist.

According to the report (30 July), the Dutchman has already stated his desire to leave Wales and is being courted by Leeds United and Southampton (Last Word On Sports, 29 July).

However, in a surprising turn of events, Piroe is anticipated to stay at the club, with his £15 million price tag proving to be a stumbling block in negotiating a deal this summer, despite the fact that his contract expires in a year.

Swansea may still accept a bid for the forward, but unless they are ready to structure a sale that pleases Piroe’s camp, a transfer away from the club now appears doubtful.

The Whites have already been busy in the summer transfer window, recruiting Ethan Ampadu and Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow from Chelsea in a £7 million deal, and a prospective striker addition will be high on Daniel Farke’s recruitment agenda.

Given his exceptional finishing talents, Piroe appeared to be the ideal and perfect component for Daniel Farke in Leeds United’s quest for promotion after two remarkable 44-goal performances in the Championship.

Over the past two seasons, the 23-year-old has quickly established himself as one of the Championship’s most ruthless finishers, scoring 20 goals in 45 appearances last season after scoring 24 the previous season, establishing him as the ideal option to lead Leeds United forward next season.

Swansea City’s £15 million price tag, however, is proving to be a problem, according to the report, after they first agreed on an exit strategy for the Dutchman with former chief executive Julian Winter.

A club may make a bid for the forward in the near future, and Piroe’s desire to leave the club and seek greener pastures is evident.

Leeds United mustn’t allow this new development to be a stumbling block as Piroe could prove the telling difference in their quest to secure promotion.
