Coventry City manager Mark Robins

Coventry City have confirmed the signing of striker Norman Bassette, who has signed a four-year deal with the club.

The 19-year-old has joined from Ligue 2 side Caen. He spent last season on loan with Belgian Pro League side K.V. Mechelen, where he scored five goals in 22 appearances for the club.

He has represented Belgium at Under 18, Under 19 and Under 20 level. He has joined the Sky Blues for, officially, an undisclosed fee although it is reported that the club will pay of fee of between €2.5 million (£2.1m) and €3.5 million (£2.98m) with Caen also including a sell-on clause.

Responding to the signing, Coventry City head coach Mark Robins said: “We are delighted to welcome Norman to the Club.

“He’s a young player, with good experience already. He has a lot of really good attributes and a huge amount of potential.

“Norman is a confident young man already at 19 and we look forward to working with him.”

He becomes the sixth signing of the transfer window following the arrivals of Raphael Borges Rodrigues, Oliver Dovin, Luis Binks, Brandon Thomas-Asante and Jack Rudoni. It is possible the youngster could have some part to play on Saturday when the Sky Blues travel to Bristol City in the Championship, with kick-off taking place at 12.30pm.
