Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as Mark Robins welcomes Sweden international goalkeeper Oliver Dovin to the club
Coventry City have completed the signing of Sweden international goalkeeper Oliver Dovin.
The 22-year-old joins the Sky Blues from Hammarby for an undisclosed fee, understood to be almost £1.6m up front, according to reports in Sweden , making it one of the biggest fees for a Swedish top flight goalie. Dovin has signed a four year deal, subject to FA and international clearance.
He will hook up with the rest of the squad on their return from Spain on Monday and could make his non-competitive debut for the club at Stevenage on Tuesday night.
“We’re very pleased to welcome Oliver to Coventry City,” said manager Mark Robins, who revealed the club have been tracking the player for a while.
“Oliver is a highly rated goalkeeper whose progress we have followed for some time, and he will add further quality and competition to our goalkeeping group.
“He is a strong physical presence in goal, a good shot stopper and able to distribute the ball well too. We look forward to him joining us on our return from pre-season tour next week and working with him going forward.”
Although not confirmed, the player is expected to take the vacant No.1 shirt previously worn by Simon Moore, who left the club for Sunderland on a free transfer this summer. As it stands, existing keepers Ben Wilson and Brad Collins continue to wear 13 and 40, respectively. Both kept a clean sheet in tonight’s (Friday, July 19) goalless draw with Spanish side Getafe CF in Valencia when they played 45 minutes each.
A highly-rated shot stopper, Dovin has come through the ranks at Hammarby, making his senior debut in December 2020. He has since played 84 times for the Swedish top flight side, keeping 28 clean sheets in the process. He was part of the squad that won the Swedish domestic cup in 2021 and also competed in the 2021/22 UEFA Conference League Play-Offs.
He became first-choice keeper in 2022 and shortly after earned his first full international cap. Having represented Sweden at youth level, he made his full international debut in January 2023 against Iceland and made a further appearance for his national side this year against Estonia.
