CONGRATULATIONS: Coventry City legend Clinton Morrison celebrates 45th birthday today

Our member, popular former Sky Blue forward Clinton Morrison is celebrating his 45th birthday today! In a packed career (1997-2016) Clinton scored 177 times in a total of 719 games across all four English divisions with eight different clubs

Born in Tooting, London on 14th May 1979 Clinton started out 1996 in Crystal Palace‘s youth set-up eventually graduating to their first team for a Division One debut in 1998.  In two spells for the south London club (1997-2002 & 2005-08) he contributed 112 goals in 315 appearances.  In between he had a spell in the West Midlands with the Sky Blues’ neighbours (andfairly  recent landlords) Birmingham City (2002-06) where he netted sixteen times in 97 Premier League outings.

Clinton came to the Ricoh in 2008 from the Glaziers, by then a fellow Championship club and scored 23 goals in 101 Sky Blue appearances in his two seasons between 2008-10 a tidy but apparently insufficient return on the club’s investment as the CCFC declined to renew his contract. From 2010-12 Clinton was assisting Sheffield Wednesday and with the Owls he managed 14 goals in 72 outings as well as assisting  both MK Dons and Brentford on loan during his time at Hillsborough.

Clinton’s next port of call was down at League One Colchester United from 2012. However in 71 appearances over the two seasons Clinton’s goal touch deserted him somewhat and he netted only four times. Clinton then dropped down into non league football for a short spell with Long Eaton United during 2014-15 whilst developing his media work. However, he then stepped up again for a swan-song couple of seasons (2014-16) for League Two‘s Exeter City scoring two goals in 49 appearances for City’s eventual League and Wembley opponents in May 2018.

Clinton signed up for the Association at Wembley in May 2018 when the Sky Blues won the League Two play-off final versus Exeter City. CCFPA Chairman Jim Brown and our committee member, 1987 Wembley hero, Dave Bennett were at Wembley (along with nearly 40,000 other Sky Blues fans) to do the honours. Just like ‘Benno’ Clinton was doing media work at the game.

Since 2016 Clinton has played some games for Southern Premier League side Redditch United and most recently Mickleover Sports in Derbyshire. His media work has included punditry on Sky Sports and Channel 5’s ‘Football League Tonight‘. We mustn’t forget that Clinton is also a Republic of Ireland international with nine goals in his 36 caps between 2001-06.

We hope you have a great birthday today Clinton and trust we will see you back in Coventry some time next season as our guest at a future CCFPA event or (hopefully) Sky Blues game
