Coventry City boss resigned to injury blow after no-nonsense campaigner limps off

Coventry City’s Jake Bidwell is due to have a scan to determine the extent of a suspected knee ligament injury

Mark Robins has resigned himself to losing Jake Bidwell for a period of time after the Coventry City defender suffered a knee ligament injury against Sheffield Wednesday.

The no-nonsense full-back was clattered in a tackle by Owls’ midfielder Shea Charles in the 77th minute, for which the visiting player was booked, but limped off after being assessed by the Sky Blues’ medical staff, and replaced by Jay Dasilva.

It was a particular blow for City because Bidwell was one of the few players to come out with any degree of credit from the overall below par performance that saw the home side take the first half lead but gift Wednesday goals in stoppage time at the end of each half.

The left-back will have his knee scanned to determine the full extent of the injury, but the manager admitted: “He’s opened his knee up so there will be a knee ligament injury of some sort and some severity, so he’ll be out for a little while.”

Although Dasilva will deputise while he’s out, Bidwell’s absence will be felt given his consistency and form so far this season.
