Mark Robins faces an anxious wait to find out the full extent of a fresh Coventry City injury after Jamie Allen limped off the pitch against Swansea.
The energetic midfielder dropped to the ground on the edge of the Sky Blues’ penalty area just after the 20 minute mark at the CBS Arena, holding his right knee and clearly in some discomfort.
Asked what he has done and the seriousness of the injury, the manager said: “He’s got a knee ligament injury, so he had to come off. He twisted it. I don’t know how bad it is yet but it’s a knee problem and we’re hoping it’s not a really serious one.”
Allen is likely to have a scan to establish the seriousness of the ligament damage but, best case scenario, he’s still likely to be out for a couple of weeks. The injury comes just as key midfielder Ben Sheaf is attempting to return from a pre-season ankle ligament injury, with the captain an unused substitute at the weekend but clearly going to need time to get his fitness back up to speed.
That being the case, it leaves City with only two senior midfielders in Josh Eccles and Torp fully fit, although the versatile defender Joel Latibeaudiere has experience in the position, which he plays for Jamaica.
Robins had tried to strengthen his midfield in the summer and it remains the one area of the pitch that is looking rather thin in terms of depth with this latest injury setback.
