Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday are already hard at work as they prepare for the new season. The Blades have plenty of work to do to revamp their squad over the course of this summer, while the Owls will want to make more subtle additions to build on the momentum amassed towards the end of last season.
Danny Rohl has already made progress on that front, but plenty of work remains for both clubs before the season kicks off in August. In the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest news surrounding the rest of the Championship clubs.
Pardew on Summerville
Alan Pardew has been speaking about Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville, who has been heavily linked with a move away from Elland Road this summer. The former Newcastle United boss said on talkSPORT: “I had him at ADO Den Haag when he was there. We took him on loan. He was only like 16, 17. Such a lovely kid. He was like open. I had Alex Dyer assisting me, and we worked really hard with him to try and get him to understand what it really was in terms of men’s football at such a young age.
“A bit like Yamal at Barcelona. Took like a duck to water. No problem. He never feared anybody and he has brought that to Leeds. What he has is over a three kind of yard spell, he has acceleration that you just can’t stay with him. And he has the technique to beat people. Obviously, once he is gone, forget it, he is gone. It’s just really his final decision that’s going to be the crux for him in terms of reaching the real higher platforms of football. He is definitely a Premier League player for sure.
“What I am saying is to get to Liverpool, I can see why they might sort of, Brighton might be a better move for him to see how he copes. Does he pick that moment? That’s the difference between having extraordinary pace and being brilliant in the Premier League is the decision-making process?”
Moore ‘talks’
Sunderland are said to be in talks with soon to be former Coventry City goalkeeper Simon Moore. According to Alan Nixon, the keeper, who is out of contract this summer, is wanted as back-up for current Black Cats number one Anthony Patterson.
Nixon has said on his Patreon: “Managerless Sunderland are in talks with experienced Coventry keeper Simon Moore. The Black Cats are looking to sign free agent Moore, 34, as cover for Anthony Patterson.”
Stamenic deal ‘close’
Coventry City are said to be closing in on a deal to sign New Zealand international Marko Stamenic, according to Football Insider. It’s claimed the Sky Blues are in talks with Red Star Belgrade over a deal worth around £4million.
The 22-year-old midfielder has been a target of Coventry’s for some time, according to the report, and it now looks as though they will get their man. Stamenic was a regular at Belgrade last season, racking up 33 league appearances.
