Coventry City transfer round-up with Sky Blues’ hopes ‘fading fast’ and ‘fits the model’ rumour

Coventry City transfer news and gossip from CoventryLive as the rumour mill moves into overdrive

The transfer rumour mill is in full-on mode as Coventry City fans continue to wait on news of Mark Robins’ next summer signing.

So far the Sky Blues boss has recruited wingers Ephron Mason-Clark and Raphael Borges Rodrigues, defender Luis Binks and attacking midfielder Jack Rudoni to add to his largely newly assembled squad from this time last year. More fresh faces are expected through the doors in the coming weeks, albeit unlikely that any will be added before the players report back for pre-season duty on Monday (July 1).

Here’s a round-up of who’s been linked, what’s happening with them and whether they are likely to be on the Sky Blues’ radar.

Swedish blooper anyone?

Hot off the Twittersphere, now X social media platform is a report from Sweden that international goalkeeper Oliver Dovin is wanted by a Championship club in England.

The Swedish outlet Tuttosvenskan posted on Wednesday evening: Oliver Dovin looks set to leave Hammarby. According to Swedish Tuttosvenskan, the goalkeeper and Bajen are in negotiations with a Championship club about a transfer.

That sparked speculation as to who the interested club could be, with one Swedish football fan throwing QPR’s name into the mix, before another replied: “Coventry I have heard.”

That was picked up by blue tick registered @SwedeStats who recirculated the rumour while City fans frantically began searching the web and coming up with YouTube footage showing the goalkeeper literally taking his eye of the ball to concede an absolute howler.

Verdict: It’s highly probable that City are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer following the departure of Simon Moore on a free transfer to Sunderland and the expectation that Ben Wilson could be moving on due to being frustrated by a lack of regular game time, having lost his place to Brad Collins. Dovin, 21, fits the club’s development model of signing young players with potential, and two senior caps for his country would suggest just that. But it remains to be seen whether there’s anything in this particular rumour which, as it stands, is all it is.

Browne decision delay explained

Preston North End are still waiting on a contract decision from star forward Alan Browne who has a number of options, including interest from Coventry and Sheffield United.

The Sun claimed last month that the Sky Blues were keen on the 29-year-old but it’s gone all quiet on that front, and for good reason. The player, who has made over 400 appearances for North End over the last decade, recently got married and has been on honeymoon, although with the Lilywhites due to report back for pre-season on Monday, Browne’s decision must be close.

Harrsion Burrows saga rumbles on

Hopes of Peterborough United’s Harrison Burrows joining the Sky Blues are fading fast, although there does appear to be a glimmer of hope amid the confusion of a proposed move to Sheffield United.

The Peterborough Telegraph claims an “impeccable source” has said the deal to Bramall Lane has “effectively been done,” after the 22-year-old left-back and Posh skipper is claimed to have completed a medical and agreed personal terms.

However, Posh reporter Alan Swann says those claims have “been met with a stony silence from both clubs which is highly unusual, especially from the Posh end who are usually quick to try and shut down reports that are false.”

It’s no secret that the Blades are waiting on a takeover before being able to spend in the transfer window and the club is now reported to be “close” to signing former Sky Blue, Sam McCallum, on a free from Norwich. Whether that means manager Chris Wilder has switched his attention away from Burrows or simply wants both, remains to be seen.
