Coventry to pay special tribute to tragic hit-and-run victim Keaton Slater in ride-out

Bikers will be riding across the city in memory of the ‘fun-loving’ 12-year-old who died on Radford Road, with locals urged to line the route to pay tribute

Coventry will be coming together next weekend to pay a special tribute to tragic hit-and-run victim Keaton Slater. Bikers will be filling the streets as they remember the ‘fun-loving’ youngster who died on Radford Road.

Organiser Trevor Fox said they are hoping the ride-out will be the ‘biggest and loudest Coventry has known.’ It will be taking place next Sunday (July 7).

Attendees have been asked to wear Coventry City FC tops in tribute to 12-year-old Keaton, who used to ‘love’ the Sky Blues. He has been remembered for being ‘fun-loving’ and having a ‘wonderful sense of humour.’

Schoolboy Keaton, who went to Cardinal Newman Catholic School, was killed in a hit-and-run on Radford Road on Friday, June 14. He was struck by a BMW and tragically died at the scene, West Midlands Police said.

Bikers will be starting the ride where the tragedy happened near Aldi on Radford Road. It will then conclude at The Old Shepherd Pub on Keresley Road.

Riders who want to get involved can do so by donating a fee of £5. Locals are also being encouraged to line the route at 4.30pm next Sunday (July 7).

Organiser Trevor Fox said: “Get your bikes and scooters ready for Sunday, July 7, and help us make this the biggest, loudest ride Coventry has known! It will be a ride of remembrance, so nice and steady, and if you could wear Coventry City FC tops, that would be great.”

He added: “All the riders will be donating a minimum of a £5 donation to help the family not have to worry about anything other than trying to get back to some sort of normality while the person that took the life of their son is still free. We would also ask all car drivers who are delayed in their journey to be patient.”
