Coventry City have agreed to terminate the contract of young forward Evan Eghosa, according to a report from Coventry Live.
Coventry City are gearing up for a bigger and better 2024/25 season after coming up short of another play-off finish last time around.
The campaign was a memorable one as they recovered well from a poor start and made it all the way to the FA Cup semi-final. However, they fell short of their ultimate goal in the league and will be determined to make notable improvements next year.
A busy summer of business lies in wait, although last year’s rebuild means business might not be quite as extensive as last time around.
To pave the way for new additions at both first-team and academy levels, there are players moving on. Now, Coventry Live reports that one player heading elsewhere is 18-year-old Evan Eghosa.
They report that Coventry City and attacker Eghosa have agreed to part ways. His contract will be terminated 12 months early, just a year after he penned a two-year professional deal with the Sky Blues.
The next destination
The cancellation of Eghosa’s contract means he’s free to hunt for a club without being tied to a team. Coventry City could have demanded a fee for his services, but this puts the player’s future firmly in his own hands.
It remains to be seen just where he ends up but intriguingly, Norwich City did take the chance to look at the Austrian prospect recently.
Eghosa linked up with the Canaries on trial back in April. That was the first indicator that perhaps Eghosa would be moving on from the Sky Blues.
He played 30 minutes off the bench in a Premier League 2 clash against Aston Villa. The Norwich youngsters ran out 4-1 winners.
Next season
Coventry City will be hoping a productive summer can get them right in the fight for the play-off spots next time around.
They will be looking to maintain as many of their key players as possible while adding talents who can take Mark Robins’ side to the next level.
A strong pre-season could see some of Eghosa’s recent academy teammates stake a claim for first-team roles too. It looks as though he won’t be on that pathway though as an exit awaits the talented and versatile forward.
Norwich City could offer Eghosa a shot at proving himself at another EFL club but the departing Coventry City man may well have a couple of options to pick from this summer.
