Mark Robins has been hailed a “master” and tipped to lead Coventry City to a third place Championship finish this season.

The Sky Blues have added six new players so far this summer, complementing the impressive squad from last term that fell just short of the play-off mix, finishing ninth in the 2023/24 table. But EFL pundit Ali Maxwell firmly believes that City will “smash it” this season after making a couple of choice signings in the transfer window to add the quality that he believes will “kick-on” in their second campaign with the club that narrowly missed out on promotion at Wembley in 2022/23.

“The gauntlet is laid down now for Coventry City,” said Maxwell, speaking on the Not The Top 20 Pod. “There are fewer excuses this year because while they have lost Callum O’Hare – a player that we like a lot – he did only play 21 games worth of league minutes last season, less than 50 percent of league minutes. So it’s not necessarily as big a hole as you might think given his quality.

“They have signed Jack Rudoni, which is a signing I really like. I don’t see him as a direct replacement for O’Hare. He does his best work driving forward from deep areas but I think he’s going to be a real, consistent and quality operator for them in midfield for the next few years. I am hoping that Victor Torp kicks on as well after his adaptation period. If he does, that’s a very strong looking midfield unit.
