Coventry City contract news from CoventryLive as reports in the Turkish press reveal the finer details of Haji Wright’s transfer, including promotion bonuses and a hefty sell-on clause
Details have emerged about how Haji Wright’s former club Antalyaspor will further benefit from their deal when they sold the USA international to Coventry City last summer.
It is claimed by a Turkish publication that a number of clauses were agreed when the 26-year-old joined the Sky Blues for a club record fee of £7.7million last August, on the eve of the new Championship campaign. The report says that Antalyaspor will earn another 2 million Euros (almost £1.7m) if Mark Robins’ men are promoted to the Premier League although that clause, according to the article, is only active for two seasons, meaning the Turkish club will be desperately hoping Coventry gain promotion next term, having fallen short of the play-offs last time out.
The report from antalyam.com also states that Wright’s former club has a 20 percent sell-on clause on any profit made on the player, should he be sold by the Sky Blues.
The report reads: “While Antalyaspor broke the club record and sold Haji Wright, whom it transferred from Sönderjyske, to the English Championship team Coventry City, it also invested in the future with the clauses included in the contract. The Red-Whites, who put 9 million Euros (£7.7m) into their coffers from the sale of the American striker, added clauses such as a share from the next sale and a bonus in case of purchasing a Premier League ticket.”

It adds: “While Coventry City could not reach their Premier League target in Haji Wright’s first season, Antalyaspor did not lose hope regarding the bonus. It was learned that the Red-Whites signed a two-year period into the contract and if Coventry City is promoted to the Premier League in the 2024-2025 season, the bonus clause will be activated. Accordingly, if Coventry gets the Premier League opportunity next season, Antalyaspor will be the owner of 2 million Euros.”
As for the sell-on clause, the report states: “Antalyaspor also has a share in the subsequent sale of Haji Wright. According to the agreement, if the English team sells Haji Wright, Antalyaspor will get a 20 percent share.”
Wright played in 50 matches in his first season at Coventry, scoring 19 times, 16 of which were scored in 44 matches in the Championship and included seven assists. He also scored three goals in five matches in the FA Cup and provided one assist in one match in the EFL Cup.
