SAD NEWS: Problem rising up as More details emerge on injury to key Coventry City player

Coventry City injury news from CoventryLive as Mark Robins makes admission about Ben Sheaf’s recovery from a “fairly bad injury”

Mark Robins has revealed that Coventry City’s influential midfielder Ben Sheaf is not as close to a return as it had been previously believed.

The newly confirmed Sky Blues club captain has been sidelined since he limped off with an ankle injury just minutes after going on midway through the second half against Stevenage in last month’s pre-season friendly against the League One club. That forced him to sit out the three warm-up games against Darmstadt, Everton and Werder Bremen.

It’s now emerged that the 26-year-old has been recovering from ligament damage that Robins admitted after Saturday’s opening 1-0 defeat at Stoke is a “fairly bad” injury.

Sheaf’s quality was desperately missed in midfield at the bet365 Stadium, which Robins acknowledged when asked how soon he’s hoping to have the player back.

Put to him that Sheaf was a big miss, he said: “Yes, and I am hoping to have him back very soon.”

The manager then revealed, however, that: “He’s not back on the grass yet. He’s still got to work indoors on the alter-G (anti-gravity treadmill) next week and once he clears that he will be on the grass. But it will take him a little while because that was a fairly bad injury that he had.”

Sheaf will also then need to get his fitness back up to speed after missing vital match minutes in the warm-up games.
