BREAKING NEWS: Chicago Bears Bears Make Huge Announcement on Caleb Williams

The Chicago Bears made a major announcement on Monday, September 2 involving eight of their players. Just six days ahead of the team’s regular season opener on September 8 against the Tennessee Titans, the Bears announced their 2024 team captains.

Headlining the star-studded group is rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, the NFL’s No. 1 overall draft pick. The other seven captains include wide receiver DJ Moore, cornerback Jaylon Johnson, safety Kevin Byard, linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, linebacker T.J. Edwards, tight end Cole Kmet and 19-year veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis. Fans were quick to react to the announcement on social media. While the sentiment was largely positive for a rookie earning such a highly regarded honor, some commenters took exception to the Bears’ decision.

“Too many captains. Caleb hasn’t earned it yet,” one fan wrote. “15% of the team is a captain,” added another. “How is Montez Sweat not a captain” another asked.

The 22-year-old Williams played in two of Chicago’s four preseason games, totaling 170 passing yards on 10-of-20 passing, two carries for 20 yards and his first career rushing touchdown.
