BREAKING NEWS: Everton left reeling at ‘bad news’ as takeover collapses

Everton takeover talks with 777 Partners have all but collapsed after “crisis” and the deal will now fall through.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke claimed that the American investment group’s latest piece of “bad news” and their continued setbacks have put the takeover under major threat.

777 still owes MSP Sports Capital, a sports private equity firm, £158million after taking out loans to fund the running costs of Everton.

The Miami-based group also need around £100million to complete the club’s new 53,000-seat stadium at Bramley Moore Dock.

Everton takeover set to fail after fresh ‘crisis’ – O’Rourke

A fresh concern emerged regarding 777’s ability to complete the takeover as Bonza Airlines, part-owned by the Josh Wander-led group, went into administration this week.

Reportedly, 777 have held talks with GDA Luma Capital, a self-described “capital solutions company” who specialise in “complex financial challenges”, to see if they can finance the club’s debt.

The pending takeover has dragged on for seven months after they agreed a deal to buy Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1 per cent stake in Everton back in September.

777 are yet to pass the Premier League’s fit and proper ownership test and their takeover is yet to be approved.

It is believed that overall, Everton owe £400million to third-party firms, with much of this staggering figure relating to the costs of their new ground.

O’Rourke believes that the growing concerns around 777’s stability and the latest twist in the ongoing takeover bid mean they are unlikley to be approved as fit and proper owners.

The worst-case scenario for the Toffees would be administration, which would see them land a nine-point deducion, but the club’s former chief Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider that there is not yet a “credible threat of administration” at his old side.

Everton sit 15th in the Premier League table and are now safe from relegation after their 1-0 win against Brentford on Saturday (27 April).

They next face Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Friday night (3 May).
