777’s prospective takeover has dragged on since an agreement to purchase Moshiri’s majority stake in the club was reached in September last year, with the Miami-based firm thus far unable to gain Premier League approval.
But Myers does not believe there is any truth in the claim that Usmanov is funding 777, responding to the suggestion on his personal X account by simply saying (7 May): “I’d doubt that, to be honest.”
How long could 777 Partners’ attempted takeover of Everton last?
Conspiracy theories about Usmanov funding 777 from behind the scenes aside, the frustrations of fans at the length of time this takeover process has taken are understandable.
Even more concerning for Everton supporters is the prospect of the Miami-based firm succeeding in their attempts to take control of the club, in light of the multiple allegations made against them since they agreed a deal with Moshiri almost nine months ago, as well as their inability to meet the four conditions set out in the Premier League’s owners and directors test.
The Everton Shareholders Association has called for action from the Premier League, the Everton board and Moshiri – specifically, cutting ties with 777 and ending the ongoing attempted takeover process. However, in the absence of an alternative suitor willing to make their own, official takeover bid and provide the capital needed to fund the club and pass the owners and directors test, it seems the Toffees are stuck in limbo for now, with 777 hovering just outside the gates.
In other Everton news, King has slammed a “complicated” Premier League development.
