Everton could land transfer boost as ‘conversations ongoing over £40 million deal

Chelsea’s interest in the Aston Villa striker could have an impact on Everton’s business.

The domino effect is always important throughout each transfer window. When one deal happens, it can often be the catalyst for the next to be given the green light.

Certain positions in squads being bolstered can mean that players are left surplus to requirements – and therefore can be given permission to depart.

That is why Everton may be keeping watch on Chelsea’s activity – and whether one signing indeed happens. The Stamford Bridge outfit are reportedly keen to sign Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran.

It has been suggested that the 20-year-old is keen to move to the London outfit, with the Guardian reporting that Villa are willing to sell. A price tag of £40 million has been mooted, with Duran not part of manager Unai Emery’s long-term plans. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has said that conversations are ongoing.

Chelsea want Duran to provide competition for Nicholas Jackson, after previous target Benjamin Sesko opted to stay at RB Leipzig. Duran’s agent Jonathan Herrera admitted last month that his client wants more regular game time.

He told El VBar Caracol: “He is a player who has a contract with Aston Villa, he ended up doing very well and the coach is counting on him, it is a club that, having got into the Champions League is a great opportunity, but we know he wants to play, he wants to go out and play, we are going to see.”

Should Chelsea recruit Duran then it will leave Armando Broja’s future at Stamford Bridge more uncertain. The Albania international, who has come through the academy ranks in west London, spent the second half of last term on loan at Fulham. He also had a loan spell at Southampton in 2021-22 when he netted 11 times in 34 appearances.

According to the Athletic, Everton have been in discussions with Chelsea over Broja, having been a target two years ago. However, the caveat is that Everton will first need to raise funds given their precarious financial situation.

Goodison Park director of football Kevin Thelwell has admitted that the Toffees need to sell players this summer to help meet Premier League profit and sustainability rules. Jarrad Branthwaite has been linked with Manchester United and Amadou Onana is another who could be offloaded.

Meanwhile, Dominic Calvert-Lew is another coveted by Newcastle United. Should he depart then Broja could be a replacement.
