Everton takeover: Saudi royal-backed association release statement as deal meets agreement

Vatche Manoukian was interested in purchasing Everton but Dan Freidkin has won the race.

A consortium who have been unsuccessful in their aim to complete an Everton takeover have wished their best supporters.

Dan Freidkin, the owner of AS Roma has reportedly won the race to purchase the club from majority owner Farhad Moshiri. There has been plenty of interest in the Toffees since 777 Partners’ deal collapsed at the end of last month.

There was interest from local businessmen Andy Bell and George Downing, MSP Sports capital – and a consortium led by London-based Vatche Manoukian. Their offer was said to be funded by a member of the Saudi royal family and the Australian-based Myers family.

But Freidkin has been successful and is set to earn exclusivity rights to purchase Moshiri’s 94.1% stake. And the Manoukian consortium have released a classy statement and believe Evertonians deserve to see their club battling for major honours again.

“Everton fans deserve to be competing for trophies once again and we hope this deal delivers success for the club on and off the pitch,” the statement said via BBC Sport. “I want to thank our world-class investors for their support and we are excited to turn our focus to new opportunities to take great clubs to the next level.”
