It feels like a given that Manchester United will sign at least one centre-half this summer. The Red Devils absolutely need help in that area of the field. Preferably, someone who can stay fit, offering real consistency at the heart of defence.
Man United hold ‘strong interest’ in Jarrad Branthwaite as Everton look to keep player
Man United are still keen on Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, though the Merseyside club are trying to convince the defender to stay.
The name most linked with fulfilling that role is Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite. The Englishman has gone from strength to strength this term, showcasing his genuine ability throughout a tough season for the Goodison Park club.
Football Insider have provided an update on Branthwaite’s future, stating that Everton are trying to convince the player to stay for at least one more season, amid interest in him from elsewhere.
The 21-year-old has made almost 40 appearances across all competitions, helping Everton avoid the dreaded drop.
Football Insider also reaffirms United hold a ‘strong interest’ in the defender. Apparently, Branthwaite is United’s top target in the centre-back role.
On top of that, the Old Trafford club are ‘confident’ that a bid of between £70-80m would be accepted for the Englishman, as Everton have been in financial trouble this season.
The harsh reality of the modern day game is that Everton may have to cash in on Branthwaite, despite the fact that they want him to stay. United could look to use this to their advantage.
I reckon Branthwaite would be a quality addition, assuming United can pull it off, though it would represent a large chunk of the Reds’ summer transfer budget. This is a player who can easily offer the Old Trafford club 10+ years of service.
