Paul Merson has backed Everton to beat Ipswich Town at Portman Road in the Premier League on Saturday 19 October.
The Toffees are currently unbeaten in their last three Premier League fixtures after a terrible start to the season for Sean Dyche.
Speaking to Sportskeeda on 17 October, Merson has predicted that it will finish 2-1 to Everton.
“Huge game in the context of the relegation battle. Everton can’t afford to lose this game, but it’s a must-win for Ipswich Town,” he said.
“I don’t like going against Everton here. I just think they’ve been in these situations before and are well-equipped to handle it.
“I expect them to make it difficult for Ipswich in this clash and I’m predicting Sean Dyche’s men to come away with all three points.”
Everton have what it take to prove Paul Merson right v Ipswich Town
Dyche had a nervy start to the 2024/25 season, losing the first four games in the Premier League, which included the losses to Bournemouth and Aston Villa, where two-goal leads slipped twice.
However, the tides have turned at Goodison Park, and the Toffees got their first win on the board against Crystal Palace.
In the Newcastle game that followed, Dyche finally found some defensive stability, and the pairing of James Tarkowski and Michael Keane kept a clean sheet.
On the other hand, Ipswich are finding things more challenging than expected in the top flight, and their recent 4-1 drubbing at the hands of West Ham will encourage the Everton faithful.
However, it remains to be seen whether Dominic Calvert-Lewin can make the impact people have been expecting from him.
While Kieran McKenna’s team have been poor at the back, Liam Delap is someone who has provided the Tractor Boys some quality in the attack, and Everton must be wary of the former Manchester City star.
Another three points would be huge indeed.
